Blades of Glory

Finally...warm weather! With this awesome weather came the opportunity to play outside again (and, boy, did we all need it...I think young and old go stir crazy when cooped up!). Our big adventure for the weekend was ice skating at a local outdoor rink. It rocked! I seriously don't remember the last time that I went ice skating (it was definitely before pregnancies/children), but I loved the feeling of gliding across the ice.
To my surprise, my lack of recent experience didn't terribly affect my capabilities and I didn't fall once. Whew! Also to my surprise was how well Kdee did. She's only been skating once, 2 years ago, and she was gliding--even jumping--in her skates early into our skate date. In my mind, she was Dorothy Hamill and I was Bonnie Blair. Oh, sure, Dorothy sounds great, too...but as a kid, I always dreamed of becoming a speed skater. In fact, we used to go ice skating during recess at my Elementary school (a small town, the 80's and a rink across the street made this possible), and I would pretend to be a speed skater. Imagination is a great thing...
So, where was ribB and little B while the ladies brought home the gold? They were (in no particular order): "boot skating", screaming in frustration and riding a sled around the perimeter of the rink (the last two were just little B, just in case you weren't sure). After skating we had a fun lunch out together and then headed home for the kids' naps/quiet time...perfection!
Other fun highlights from the weekend include a dinner date out for ribB and myself, karate class on Friday night (just Kdee and me, very nice) and a playdate for Kdee on Sunday with her friend, Natalie. Besides all of this fun, we were very busy doing house chores. The Oscar party is just around the corner and with each passing day, I'm more and more excited...
