Pop Quiz!
Betcha didn't expect a little pop quiz at the start of the week, but "holla!", it's just that...and watch out, it's a tricky one full of details from the past 3 weeks...
1) Louise (our cat) was thrilled to have some very special visitors to our house during the last weekend of October. So, who was her mysterious snuggle buddies?
a) Garfield & Otis
b) Wrigly & Gizmo
c) Chandra & Matt
Answer: C! ribB's sister, Chandra, and her new husband, Matt, came over for a night on their way to a wedding. We loved having them over, especially since they live in Chicago and we aren't able to get together often. The kids were super pumped about the cool Halloween gifts they brought (witches fingers! flashlights! candy!) and Louise found it purrfect to have her sugar daddy, Matt, back in town. It was great to catch up and hang out together!
2) With such a fun start to the weekend, how did the ribclan keep the excitement going?
a) ribB rushed north on Saturday for hunting, hunting, hunting
b) I drove north in the late afternoon, got pulled over, dropped the kids off with ribB,then drove north further to Duluth (with a car driving at me in the wrong lane of a major freeway---yikes) for the Tobymac/BarlowGirl concert (which was too awesome for words)
c) Sunday afternoon the kids & I drove home for Kdee's school Halloween party
Answer: Yes, all of the above! Could we possibly cram any more fun into one weekend?
3) Little B recently proclaimed to Ann:
a) "You make me laugh like a monkey!"
b) "I'm wearing underwear. They're plastic."
c) "My toes are big."
Answer: B! You know you've become a big boy when you can brag about your undergarments. Little B has had major progress in the potty training department over the past 3 weeks. His new teacher goes full throttle on the potty training (no diapers or pull-ups...just lots of underwear, plastic pants and dry clothes!). Little B has been SO PROUD of himself (as he should be) and this past week, all diapers and wipes for him were sent home! ribB and I are in shock a bit--very cool. He is really taking "big boy school" to heart, much to our amazement. Way to go, B!
4) On Sunday, November 4th:
a) ribB had a successful bow hunt--he brought "groceries" home in the form of a doe
b) Grandma Honey had a birthday!
c) I broke the passenger mirror off of my car, while backing out of the garage
Answer: Yep, all of the above! And, for the record, it was my first, freak mirror accident...ever. Didn't help that the kids were squabbling. Didn't help that I was trying to take them out for dinner, to pass some time. Yeah, we didn't go anywhere that night! ribB was kind enough to take care of the damage when he got home at midnight...whew.
5) When dad's away, the kids:
a) will play...date, that is (much to my relief!)
b) repainted my living room an ambigious shade of "mountain dew" green
c) declared they will not eat venison
Answer: A! The bow & gun hunting seasons get a bit long for me, especially at the end (2 more days and counting!). To break up the weekends, we've had some fun playdates recently--namely at Jacqueline's & Susan's houses. THANK YOU to them for the sanity booster & the fun times! I am blessed! (and yeah, C is such a joke--today when I asked the kids if they thought dad had gotten a deer, little B declared "YES! AND WE WILL EAT IT ALL!!!"--I kid you not!)
6) John Ortberg is...
a) our neighbor who dumps his yard waste in our woods
b) Kdee's temporary teacher while her usual teacher is out on maternity leave
c) the author/Pastor who wrote the materials we're using for my small group
Answer: C! This fall I joined my first ever small group (aka bible study) through my Church. I can't believe it's taken me so long to do something so fun and cool. Bible study, cool? YES! I've met so many amazing and wonderful people within my group. And, at the risk of sounding like one of those jilted candidates on "The Bachelor", I can't believe how quickly these people have become so meaningful to me. Our 6-week study is now over, and I am going to be in withdrawl. My heart and soul have been transformed. (And by the way, B & C are things that have happened--or continue to happen (neighbor!)...but just don't involve my new fave author. Check out his books at Amazon.
7)Work has been so crazy and overwhleming that...
a) Heather just walked out the door one day (but sauntered back in late the next day)
b) we hired a new employee who knows about soup
c) I took a nap under my desk for 3 hours
Answer: B! Man, talk about blessings. Our newest employee at HPI, Patty, is AWESOME. And, a lifesaver. Heather and I are thrilled to have her aboard to help us facilitate the national Anytime Fitness marketing that our "little-agency-that-could" creates. I could list her many, many attributes but one that's definitely kept our days light are her awesome stories. The next time you see me, just ask about the "soup" door prize she experienced--or her husband's prized Christmas gift from his sister. As she often says, "You can't make this stuff up!!!". Yes, it's that good...and she's even better. (By the way, there's a story to A, but it doesn't involve Heather...uff dah, it's good story, too...)
8)So, it's the official "deer hunter widow" weekend--what do you do?
a) Meditate and relax at a fabulous spa
b) Make homemade decorations for the Christmas season with the 2 kiddos
c) Grab a fave cousin and hit the town
Answer: C! Thanks to my mom, I got a night out with my cousin Karla. We hit "Khan's" and the Sara Groves concert (www.saragroves.com). It was awesome! And while the 3 hour concert was nothing short of amazing, my time with Karla was truly the highlight of the whole night. I hope it's the first of many outings together!
9) Kdee is currently...
a) the "shaggy dog"--and I say that lovingly
b) going to university sponsored classes
c) a certified yoga instructor
Answer: A! If you can believe this (which if you've seen her hair, you might not!), Kdee is growing out her hair--including her bangs. She has such thick hair, it's quite the feat. Surprisingly, the bangs in her eyes haven't deterred her (and it definitely would for me). She's been a trooper and I've assured her that I've got plenty of good styling products and tricks up my sleeve (thanks to my mom!) to get her through the awkward stages. While it's been growing, we've discovered that she actually has curl to her hair! Who knew?!?! So with that discovery, we're "embracing" the curl and eagerly anticipating her soon-to-be updated style.
Ok, after making up the "yoga" option above, it's obvious that I'm getting tired! I'm hopeful that there will be more updates sooner than later, so be sure to check back regularly! (And, I'll even plan to have some pictures!!!)
Have a great week everyone!
